Maximizing Email Performance on Mobile

For best performance, it is recommended that you download and configure the Outlook app for your mobile device. Although the Mail app on your mobile device is fine for those who check email on their phone occasionally, the Outlook app is a robust solution for those who rely on email. Some added features of the mobile app include management of shared mailboxes, categorization of messages, ability to create inbox rules and the ability to view colleagues’ calendars, just as you can on desktop.

To download the Outlook app, go to the Apple Store or Google Play and search Microsoft Outlook.

If you would prefer to use the mail app that came with your device, you need to renew your app settings to avoid errors and delays. Please follow these easy steps to remove then reinstall University Mail:

Mail app for iOS device: If you have an Outlook/Exchange email already configured on your phone, you should delete it then add an account with these instructions. If you currently do not have an Outlook/Exchange email programmed into your phone, you can skip step 3.

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Go to Passwords & Accounts.
  3. Choose Exchange, scroll down and tap Delete Account. (This will delete the notes from that account. However, if you add back the same account — University access, for example — the notes will reappear.)
  4. Tap Add Account.
  5. Tap Microsoft Exchange.
  6. For Description type a name for the account (e.g., Mizzou, School, etc.).
  7. Tap Next.
  8. When you see Configure manually or sign in, Tap Sign In.
  9. Enter your Full Email Address using umsystem.edu (e.g., “username@umsystem.edu”).
  10. Enter your email password for Password.

Mail app for Android device:

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Under Accounts, tap Add Account.
  3. Choose Corporate or Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.
  4. Enter your Full Email Address (e.g., “username@umsystem.edu”).
  5. Tap Next.
  6. Enter your email password for Password.
  7. Tap Next.
  8. For Server type “outlook.office365.com”.
  9. If you have separate Domain and Username fields:
    1. Domain: Leave empty.
    2. Username: Type your email address.
  10. For Security Type, select SSL/TLS.
  11. Tap Next.
  12. Tap OK for Remote security administration.
  13. Choose what account options you want to sync.
  14. Tap Next.
  15. Tap Activate for Activate device administrator.
  16. Enter a Name for your email account.
  17. Tap Done.
