Residence Hall Access and Door Locks

Identification Card Icon
Your Mizzou TigerCard is the key to your residence hall and possibly to your res hall room. Be careful not to lose it – it’s also your student charge card!

Door Locks

Exterior:

All Mizzou residence hall buildings have electronic locks on their exterior doors. To get in, simply swipe your TigerCard/Student ID.

Interior:

All residence halls have electronic locks on their interiors doors except Discovery, Excellence, Respect, and Responsibility. Those residents receive a hard key.

Residents need their TigerCard and Tiger PIN to unlock the door to their room, suite, and community-style restrooms. Your Tiger PIN is the last four digits of your student number. To look up your student number in myZou, go to Self Service > Campus Personal Information > Demographic information.

Changing your Tiger Pin

For your security, we recommend you change your PIN after you use it for the first time. How you do so depends on which residential hall you live in.

Kiosk Residential Halls

In offline or “kiosk” halls, you can change your PIN using a kiosk, which is usually near the front desk. Kiosk halls are:

  • Dogwood
  • Galena
  • Gillett
  • Hawthorn
  • Hudson

The following videos provide step-by-step instructions for using locks and kiosks:

Please note: When you enter your PIN with the kiosk keypad or on electronic locks in kiosk halls, you must omit any leading zeros. For example, if your PIN is 0475, enter only 475.  Please allow 15-20 minutes for the system to update and recognize your new PIN.

WiFi Halls

In online or “WiFi” halls, you can change your PIN using the electronic lock on your door. WiFi halls are:

  • Bluford
  • Brooks
  • Center
  • College Avenue
  • Defoe-Graham
  • Gateway
  • Hatch
  • Johnston
  • Mark Twain
  • McDavid
  • North
  • Schurz
  • South
  • Wolpers

The following videos provide step-by-step instructions for using electronic locks in “WiFi” halls.

Please note: Unlike the kiosk halls, you do not omit any leading zeros in your PIN. Also, allow five minutes for the system to update and recognize your new PIN. After five minutes, swipe your card, wait 30 seconds, and swipe once more in order for the lock to recognize your new PIN.
