Cloud Mailbox Migration

As part of the university’s work to protect sensitive information, we are adding additional measures to keep our network safe from threats that may come through your email. University emails began to be upgraded to a more secure cloud environment on Jan. 5, 2021. You will receive an email when your account is set to be moved. If you are using the Outlook application on your desktop or mobile device, when your account has been upgraded:

  1. You will receive a pop-up message that says, “The Microsoft Exchange administrator has made a change that requires you quit and restart Outlook.”
  2. After quitting and restarting the program, you may be required to re-enter your credentials.
  3. You may also be prompted to recreate your mail profile on your mobile device.

After completing these steps, your email should function as it normally would.

Over the next year, you’ll hear more about the enhanced security measures that are being implemented to protect our network from threats. While these steps will make our institutional data more secure, it’s still essential that you follow best practices when managing your university inbox:

  • Use your university email for business purposes only.
  • Eliminate sensitive data from your email, appropriately and safely file correspondence you need to maintain and delete old or irrelevant items.
  • Do not use your university password on non-university systems.

More information about the status of security measures is available on our data security updates webpage. This page will be updated as new policies, procedures and tools are developed and implemented. You will also receive additional information on cloud-based email closer to the date you are scheduled to move.

If you need support as you configure your email client or connect to your mailbox after migration, please contact the appropriate Help Desk or access our self-service resources.
