Gadgets in your room

We love gadgets, but there are a few important things to remember when bringing along your gaming systems and TVs. Read the following guidelines to make sure your devices work as desired.

Smart TVs and Entertainment Device

If you bring a Smart TV or a streaming device, be sure that it has an Ethernet port to ensure that it can connect to the campus network. Any devices must connect to the wired network using an Ethernet cable. Please check your device to see if it has an Ethernet port or if an adapter is available.

Gaming Systems

If you bring a gaming system, be sure that it has an Ethernet port to ensure that it can connect to the campus network. Any devices must connect to the wired network using an Ethernet cable. Please check your device to see if it has an Ethernet port or if an adapter is available. Don’t forget to bring a wired router and surge protector!

Wired Routers

If you are bringing multiple devices (laptops, gaming systems, etc.) a wired router is a good idea as long as the wireless signal is disabled. Ethernet switches and wifi routers are not permitted.

Smart Speakers and Voice-Controlled Devices

If you bring a voice controlled devices such as Echo, Echo Dot, or Tap, be sure that it has an Ethernet port to ensure that it can connect to the campus network. Any devices must connect to the wired network using an Ethernet cable. Please check your device to see if it has an Ethernet port or if an adapter is available.

Personal Printers

Bringing a personal printer is not necessary. All residence hall groups have campus printers available for student use. Students are granted a $17.50 print allowance per semester, which is about 350 pages (black only). Additional prints will be charged to your student account. If you think 350 pages will not be sufficient, you may want to consider a personal, wired printer.
