RSS Announcements – January 2022

Hello Research Computing Community,

Happy New Year to all our users! We hope you had a safe and happy holiday break.

You may have read about the Kyoto University supercomputer incident from a few weeks ago. Apparently, a bug in the backup program of their storage system caused about 34 million files, approximately 77TB of data, to be lost and are considered unrecoverable!

We wanted to use this as an opportunity to remind and urge you to be backing up your data to a local machine. If you have questions about how to transfer data from Lewis, please reach out via email or visit our CIE’s during office hours (held 4 days a week) via the link below.

Maintenance

Jobs will run if they are scheduled to complete before the maintenance window begins and jobs will start again once the maintenance is complete. Users of Lewis are encouraged to plan their use of the cluster with this maintenance window in mind.
