Visitor & Guest Accounts

How To Request Access

UM System & MU Campus Visitors

(Including School of Medicine, School of Health Professions & School of Nursing) Non-affiliated individuals will be required to have a University Employee ID (EmplID) and Courtesy Appointment (a non-paid appointment tracked in PeopleSoft) in order to be granted Visitor status. A department can request an EmplID and Courtesy Appointment via a Personnel Action Form (PAF). PAFs for Courtesy Appointments can be obtained by working with the individual department’s HR office.

Once an EmplID has been assigned, the department may request University Telecom and IT Resources in the same fashion as employee requests for these services.

MU Health Care On-Site Visitors

Non-affiliated individuals that will physically be on site will be required to have a University Employee ID (EmplID) and Courtesy Appointment (a non-paid appointment tracked in PeopleSoft) in order to be granted Visitor status. A department can request an EmplID and Courtesy Appointment by selecting the Non-Paid Employees ID Request Form, at the University Hospital’s Human Resources Office. Additional vetting may need to occur in order to access University Hospital resources.

Once an appointment has been approved, the department may request University Telecom and IT Resources by sending the full name, employee ID, and title to Information Security & Access Management (ISAM).

MU Health Care Off-Site Visitors

Non-University affiliated individuals who will not physically be on site, for example software vendors, must be sponsored by a hospital department.

The department may request University Telecom and IT Resources by contacting Information Security & Access Management (ISAM).

  • School of Medicine, Heath Professions and Nursing should obtain a courtesy appointment for the visitor through the UM System & MU Campus process above.

Cancellation

When the nonaffiliated individual no longer needs access to University Telecom and IT resources, the sponsoring department must terminate the appointment by contacting their central HR office. Once the termination has been processed, the account and other services will be discontinued via the standard account deletion process.

If a visitor’s access needs to be restricted immediately, the sponsoring department’s IT Pro (or departmental contact) can contact Information Security & Access Management at accounts@missouri.edu to request the account be locked.

Temporary Access

Temporary Access should be requested for any non-affiliated individual with a need for network access only for a period less than 30 days. A temporary account should be requested if the guest needs access to a network resource such as a workstation. Temporary accounts are generically named, do not have any email or other IT resources, and provide only authentication credentials to the guest. Temporary accounts can be requested for either the University of Missouri-Columbia or the University Hospital networks.
