Grammarly for Education-What is changing and when?
The free and premium versions of Grammarly, an AI-powered writing service, will no longer be available for use by employees and student employees across the four UM System campuses due to privacy and security concerns. This change will go into effect Jan. 9, 2025.
We are making this change because certain versions of Grammarly incorporate AI tools that can scan users’ screens and collect the data that is being displayed. This poses security and privacy concerns due to its potential to collect sensitive information, such as protected student data, protected health information, personally identifiable information and more.
How to Order
How to Order Go to doitservices.missouri.edu to request Grammarly. In the Service Catalog, under Software, select Other. Due to the upcoming TDX migration, there is not a Cherwell form for Grammarly requests. Please include the billing MoCode, User’s full name, SSO ID (pawprint), full computer name (including prefix), and department on all requests.
The university will utilize Single Sign-on, allowing users to log in with their university credentials (Pawprint@umsystem.edu) once a license has been purchased. The software may be installed on up to five devices. - UM System-Faculty and Staff
- Departments may purchase licenses via MoCode for their employed students

Refund Requests: If a user is seeking a refund for a license purchased directly through Grammarly, please note that all refund-related inquiries or requests should be directed to Grammarly’s support team. They can be reached at support@grammarly.com, and they will assist with the refund process.
License Policy
All licenses are based on the stated license period, regardless of the date they were purchased. This means that in order to maintain access, they must be renewed annually. Please ensure you keep track of your renewal dates to avoid any interruptions in service.
It is the policy of the University of Missouri to honor software license agreements and to require all users to do likewise. The Division of Information Technology will not knowingly assist, or permit its equipment to be used, in violation of such agreements. The software must not be copied for someone else or loaned to someone else for them to copy.
The license agreement expires upon the termination of the user’s affiliation with the University of Missouri.

Existing Individual Grammarly Users: Please note that if you are currently signed up for Grammarly using a campus domain, such as @umkc.edu, @umsl.edu,@missouri.edu and @mst.edu, you will need to change your email address to your @umsystem.edu email by Jan. 9, 2025, using these steps. This will ensure that you do not end up with two separate Grammarly accounts and don’t lose any of your data/preferences in the process. Please note that this email change request is not related to adding people to the security group. To be added to the security group, a license purchase from our software sales team is required.
