Network modernization project to improve internet speeds, reliability enters second phase

Since December 2023, the MU Division of IT has been undertaking a significant enhancement to our campus infrastructure through the network modernization project. This multi-year project enhances and expands both Wi-Fi and wired internet coverage spanning 150 buildings across campus.

Phase 1 of the project concluded in December 2024 and included Wi-Fi and wired connection upgrades across 27 buildings. Phase 2 is now underway and includes 67 buildings. The project is expected to continue into early 2027.

“Improving the infrastructure of our network – both wireless and wired – means faster speeds, enhanced coverage and the latest in network technology,” said Nate Roettgen, director of IT infrastructure for the MU Division of IT. “Our team has had boots on the ground over the past year to ensure that every member of our campus community has reliable internet access as they carry out their coursework and research.”

Once the upgrades are complete, students, faculty and staff can look forward to a more efficient and seamless online experience across campus. Whether in a lecture hall, library or common area, users will benefit from improved connectivity and faster download and upload speeds.
