Use Microsoft Authenticator app to avoid disruptions
Published on
The login challenges many faculty, staff and students experienced on Dec. 5 and 6 were due to a change Microsoft inadvertently made to authentication services. Text and phone call verification methods are becoming increasingly less reliable. The preferred method is to use a mobile application to verify identity when logging into university resources like email, CANVAS, PeopleSoft, Teams and more.
To avoid similar disruptions in the future, users should download and use the Microsoft Authenticator app instead of text or phone call authentication. The Microsoft Authenticator app can be set up on your device and provides a more secure and quicker verification method.
Follow these instructions to set up the app:
- Users at University of Missouri, UM System and MU Health Care
- Users at University of Missouri-St. Louis
- Users at Missouri S&T
- Users at University of Missouri-Kansas City
If you have any questions or trouble setting up the app, please contact your IT Help Desk.
