Accessibility Matters at MU
The IT Accessibility Center is a part of the University of Missouri’s Division of IT that helps ensure students, faculty, and staff have equal access to computing opportunities. Whether it is assistive technology, alternative formats, web accessibility, or workstation ergonomics, each individual’s capabilities and limitations are taken into account when deciding what is best. The goal is to make sure that tasks, functions, information and the environment suit each user. Some options are open to everyone at MU, other options are available to currently enrolled students who are working with Disability Center and have demonstrated a need for more specialized accommodations.
Accessibility Consultations
A consultation with the IT Accessibility Center is required for students who have established the alternative format accommodation with the Disability Center. The purpose of the consultation is to determine the assistive technology software that will be most beneficial for reading, writing, and studying.
Assistive Technology Support
The IT Accessibility Center provides assistive technology support for persons with disabilities to effectively use their technology throughout their education and/or career at MU.
Accessibility Reviews
The IT Accessibility team conducts thorough evaluations to ensure websites, documents, and applications meet accessibility standards. Actionable feedback is provided to help create a more inclusive and user-friendly experience for everyone.
Free and Low-Cost Tools
Looking for an app or software to help with something specific? The IT Accessibility Center offers a list of free and low-cost tools in several categories to assist faculty, staff and students.
Kurzweil 3000
Kurzweil 3000 is desktop literacy software featuring reading, writing and study tools. Students who have Alternative Format Accommodations are provided with this text-to-speech resource.
Alternative Text Format
Alternative Text Format is an accommodation through the MU’s Disability Center that guarantees accessible course materials (textbooks, articles, documents, etc.).
