2026 IT Annual Report
UMSL Accomplishments and Goals – 2026 Report

Application Delivery and Modernization
- ITS, in partnership with enrollment services, implemented several strategic enrollment technologies, including AI Recruiter, AI Financial Aid, Enroll ML, Niche and SmartPanda Raptor. Slate CRM/Stripe identity verification has been successfully piloted and UMSL is transitioning it into production to reduce fraudulent applications.
- ITS completed the ColdFusion infrastructure modernization effort, which included refactoring all ColdFusion applications in preparation of the upgrade and the retirement of 70+ legacy applications and automation of CI/CD pipeline deployments. This work improved reliability, enhanced security, reduced technical debt and established modern foundation for future applications development.
Campus Managed Printing
Campus Printer fleet replacement and migration to PaperCut, replacing the legacy in-house application, along with transitioning fax from on premise to cloud. This reduced the number of MFPs and deskside devices while improving reliability, increasing functionality and enhanced reporting. To further improve operational efficiency, Tier 1 printer support was transferred to the vendor, allowing the Help Desk resources to focus on core campus technology support services.
Secure Migration of Restricted ‘Locker’ Sites
UMSL ITS completed a multi-year effort to transition all on premise SharePoint and SharePoint locker sites. Locker sites contained restrictive and highly restrictive data. ITS worked in collaboration with the other UM universities and their Information Security Officers to ensure their unique security and compliance needs were met. This transitioned the secured legacy instances to modern, appropriately secured platforms that maintain data integrity.
UMSL Transformation Initiatives Support
ITS worked closely with Facilities Planning and Construction to support multiple UMSL Transformation initiatives across campus. This work included the planning, design, installation and deployment of network infrastructure, audiovisual technologies, computer systems and user relocations. These efforts ensured that renovated and newly configured campus spaces were equipped with modern, reliable technology solutions that support teaching, learning, research and administrative operations.
Network & Infrastructure Modernization
Over the past several years, ITS has made significant investments in core network infrastructure, wireless modernization and campus redundancy improvements. In Fiscal Year 2027, we will focus on the replacement of campus edge and data center firewalls to strengthen security, improve resiliency and support future technology growth. Additionally, ITS will conduct a comprehensive campus telecommunications assessment to evaluate current services, future communication needs and modernization opportunities for the university’s telephone systems.
Continued Compliance Efforts
ITS will continue toward audit compliance, including policy creation, developing a modern disaster recovery plan and incident response. ITS will continue to work with campus stakeholders and partners across the system to meet the Digital Accessibility guidelines set to take effect in April 2027. These efforts will help ensure university technologies, services and digital resources remain accessible and compliant for all users.
Strategic Planning Implementation
In FY27, ITS will implement of a project portfolio management tool to serve as a single source of truth for IT project initiative that illustrates how IT resources align with strategic campus initiatives. This includes the development of a three-year IT project roadmap. This roadmap will provide greater transparency into project planning, resource utilization and the long-term technology vision for UMSL.
