Laptop Checkout Kiosk
Using your Mizzou Mobile ID or physical Mizzou ID, students and employees can check out a Dell or Mac laptop for up to 24 hours. The laptops come ready to use with Microsoft 365 and other commonly used software. They also provide access to Software Anywhere and Print Anywhere, making it easy to complete assignments, access course-related programs and print documents wherever it’s most convenient.
How can I borrow an item from the kiosk?
Follow the on-screen instructions. These instructions include reading and accepting the Laptop & Charger Borrowing Program’s Terms of Use.
How long can I borrow an item?
The time limit is 24 hours from initial checkout. Please verify building access hours to ensure you are able to return the laptop within the 24-hour time frame.
Do I have to sign an agreement use form?
No written signature is required, but you must read and accept the Laptop & Charger Borrowing Program’s Terms of Use electronically each time you borrow an item.
Do you restrict where I can take the kiosk device?
We ask that you do not remove the laptop from the main Mizzou campus. For laptops checked out at Ellis Library, we ask that you use the items within the library.
Where do I return the laptop? Can I return it to any kiosk?
The laptop should be returned to the same kiosk from which it was checked out.
Is there a receipt for borrowing?
You will receive a checkout receipt when you check out an item. A return receipt will be displayed on the screen upon return.
What do I do if the item is not functioning properly when I first borrow it?
Return the item as soon as you realize there is a problem with it. Please choose the displayed option that most closely describes the problem you had with the item. Then check out another item if it is available.
Is there a late fee and how much is it?
It is $1 per hour. Failure to return the item within 7 days will result in a full replacement cost.
What happens if I lose or damage an item?
You are responsible for the loss or damage up to the total cost of the item per the Laptop & Charger Borrowing Program’s Terms of Use you accepted when borrowing an item.
Why can’t I borrow an item someone else just returned?
The kiosk performs functions such as recharging the battery. This takes a minimum of 6 minutes (possibly longer depending upon how long the previous user had the device out and how much the battery was depleted) and during that time the kiosk device cannot be borrowed.
Why are some of the items not able to be borrowed?
An item cannot be borrowed while it is in charging mode or if one was reported damaged. Charging devices will show up as yellow on the kiosk screen. Damaged devices will show up as red with a wrench icon. Damaged devices will be repaired and replaced as soon as possible.
How do I connect to the wireless network?
Log into the laptop right after you borrow it using your University of Missouri username and password. Once logged in, the laptop will automatically connect to TigerWifi.
When I return the laptop, what happens to any data I have left on it?
Laptops are wiped clean of data after logging out to protect patron privacy after each use, so please make sure to log out before returning.
Can I store data on the laptop hard drive temporarily?
Yes, however, we recommend that you use Microsoft OneDrive or an external storage device and save your work frequently. If the laptop is logged out, rebooted or runs out of power anytime during the borrowing period, all locally saved data will be lost.
