The Division of IT has developed a program to design and run secure computing environments to researchers who must comply with Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) regulations.
Starting in December 2017, the Federal Government is requiring all contracts involving Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) to adhere to stricter information security standards and controls to protect sensitive government data. This primarily impacts research grants from Federal Government agencies, but can also be required by non-governmental agency contracts.
The Division of IT is equipped to help researchers working with this data design secure computing environments and is available to build and manage them on the research team's behalf. At this time each environment will be uniquely designed, leveraging enterprise services wherever possible. See Getting Started if you would like to begin consultation.
Pricing will vary from project to project depending upon the environment's design. Where enterprise services are used, standard rates will apply.
Services are available to any researcher with a contract requiring adherence to NIST SP 800-171 to protect Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). Services are available to researchers on all UM System campuses.
