How to Remote into a Computing Sites Lab Computer on Windows 10

In this process you will launch the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection program, install and connect to the university VPN service, and then remote access the Computing Site computer.

  • Remote Desktop Connection should be pre-installed for Windows 10 users.

The speed and reliability of this connection is completely dependent on your home internet connection.

  1. Open the Start Menu.
  2. Search Remote.
  3. Open Remote Desktop Connection.
  4. Connect to the University VPN using the steps below:
    1. VPN Connection for Windows
  5. Go to the Available Classroom Computer page.
  6. Select the lab you want to remote in to.
  7. Here you will see a list of computers you can access.
    1. If you select the computer, you will see the list of available software on the machine.
  8. Click on the Address link for the machine you want to access.
  9. A window will open asking to save or run the file. Save the file.
  10. Open the file from your downloads.
  11. Another window will open asking if you approve connecting to the remote computer; click Connect.
  12. A Windows Security box will show up asking for credentials to log into the machine. It will want to connect with your personal computer credentials by default. Click More Choices below the password field.
  13. Click Use a different account.
  14. Sign into the machine with your university credentials as: Domain\Username and myZou password.
  15. Another window might open asking if you want to approve the security certificate used to connect to the remote computer. Click Yes.
  16. You will be connected to the machine.

Please save any work that is done on this machine to a cloud storage solution (OneDrive, Box, etc..) or email the saved file to yourself when you are done. All files stored on this machine will be deleted when the remote connection is terminated.

How to Remote into a Computing Sites Lab Computer on macOS

In this process you will install the Microsoft Remote Desktop 10 program, install and connect to the university VPN service, and then remote access the Computing Site computer. The speed and reliability of this connection is completely dependent on your home internet connection.

  1. Open the App Store on your Mac.
  2. Search Remote Desktop.
  3. One of the top responses should be the Microsoft Remote Desktop 10 and it will be look like the image below:
  4. Click Get in order to download the program.
  5. Connect to the University VPN using the steps below:
    1. VPN Connection for Mac
  6. Go to the Available Classroom Computer page.
  7. Select the lab you want to remote in to.
  8. Here you will see a list of computers you can access.
      If you select the computer, you will see the list of available software on the machine.
  9. Click on the Address link for the machine you want to access.
  10. A window will open asking to save or run the file. Save the file.
  11. Open the file from your downloads.
  12. Sign into the machine with your University Username and password.
  13. Another window will open asking if you want to continue to connect to the RDP host; click Continue.
  14. You will be connected to the machine.

Please save any work that is done on this machine to a cloud storage solution (OneDrive, Box, etc..) or email the saved file to yourself when you are done. All files stored on this machine will be deleted when the remote connection is terminated.
