Division of IT: Video/TV/Media Services

Streaming Media Services

The Division of IT partners with MU's Academic Support Center (ASC) to provide a "concept to streaming" solution for the MU community. ASC services include capturing, editing, and encoding various forms of content.

The Division of IT offers archived streaming media services for audio and video content:

  • Non-academic: provided by ASC or the customer.
  • Academic: provided by ET@MO.
If you wish to encode your own content using a Windows Media-compatible format, see our encoding recommendations.

If you require capturing, editing and encoding services, visit the ASC site.

Note: Customers must maintain the appropriate copyright and release forms for their content.

Fees

Storage for streaming media files is available for $15 per gigabyte per month with a one-gigabyte minimum. Additional setup fees may apply. When actual usage exceeds allocated amount, billing will be automatically adjusted.

Availability

E-mail Division of IT Streaming Media or complete the Consulting Request Form.

Service Expectations

The Division of IT provides 250-300 Kbps streams for customers using broadband or LAN connections. We recommend using audio-only streams for customers connecting via dial-up.

What We Support

The Division of IT supports Windows Media-encoded files and we recommend using the latest Internet Explorer, Mozilla or Safari browser along with Windows Media 9 player or above for optimum playback.

Apple QuickTime is supported. Please use the most current version of QuickTime for optimal results.

Bandwidth

Bandwidth is always a consideration in relation to streaming services. Files are available to stream at anytime; however, the Division of IT reserves the right to disable streams if they negatively impact other services. Consult the Acceptable Use Policy for additional information.
