Windows Vista Known Issues

The following software has known compatibility issues with Windows Vista. For more details search the IT KnowledgeBase.

Adobe Acrobat 8/Adobe Acrobat Reader 8

User Access Control must be enabled in Vista before installing Adobe Acrobat 8 or Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.

To enable User Access Control:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Control Panel.
  3. Open User Accounts.
  4. Click Turn User Account Control on or off.
  5. Click Use User Account Control....
  6. Click OK.
  7. Restart the computer.

Adobe Dreamweaver 8

Dreamweaver may crash when browsing for files if Microsoft Groove 2007 is installed. To solve the problem, either uninstall Groove 2007 or do not browse for files in Dreamweaver.

Host on Demand

User Access Control must be temporarily disabled to install Host on Demand. Java version 6 is not compatible with Host on Demand. If you have Java 6 installed, please uninstall before following these instructions.

How to install Host on Demand in Vista:

  1. Install JRE 5 Update 10 from java.sun.com.
  2. Click Start.
  3. Click Control Panel.
  4. Open User Accounts.
  5. Click Turn User Account Control on or off.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. Uncheck Use User Account Control....
  8. Click OK.
  9. Restart the computer.
  10. Go to http://tn3270.umsystem.edu.
  11. Click the UMMVSB 24X80 link beneath UMC.
  12. Follow the prompts to install Host on Demand.
  13. Click Start.
  14. Click Control Panel.
  15. Open User Accounts.
  16. Click Turn User Account Control on or off.
  17. Click Continue.
  18. Check Use User Account Control....
  19. Click OK.
  20. Restart the computer.

Power Archiver

The installer tries to replace a system file with an older version. Keeping the newer version of the file is recommended.

Samba

Network security settings must be changed in Vista before mapping a Samba connection to Bengal.

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Control Panel.
  3. Open Administrative Tools. (If you don't see Administrative Tools, click Classic View.)
  4. Open Local Security Policy.
  5. Open Local Policies.
  6. Open Security Options.
  7. Open Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level.
  8. Select LM and NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated from the drop-down menu.
  9. Click OK.

SAS 9.1.3

SAS 9.1.3 requires Service Pack 4 to be compatible with Vista.

SPSS 15

SPSS requires a hotfix to be compatible with Vista. The hotfix is available at http://support.spss.com.

Symantec AntiVirus CE

  • Version 10.2 is the first version compatible with Vista.
  • Slowdowns and blue screens have been reported.
  • After upgrading from XP to Vista it is not possible to remove older versions of Symantec.
