Make IT Safe: Cyber Security
Computers are becoming an increasingly important part of our lives. While computers are a great resource, be aware that they also pose a potential danger if used improperly. If you have a computer that is hooked up to the Internet, you need to be especially careful.
The following links include information on a variety of cyber-security-related topics that you should be aware of. Take a look and learn more about the importance of cyber security.
- MSN Staying Safe Online
This is the MSN guide to staying safe online. It includes areas for children to learn about the importance of behaving safely online.
- Disney Online Cybersafety
If you have younger children at home, this site has three great cartoons to teach them about Internet safety.
- Internet Crime Complaint Center
The IC3 addresses fraud committed over the Internet, which is an increasingly common problem. For example, in 2000 consumers lost more than $3.2 million to Internet fraud.

These sites address the problem of identity theft. According to a 2003 FTC survey, approximately 10 million people were a victim of identity theft during the past year. Take a look at these sites for valuable information on how to protect personal information.
- The NetSmartz Workshop
This site helps children learn about online security. It contains games and activities geared toward helping kids understand the risks of being online.
- Cybercrime.gov
The Computer Crime & Intellectual Property Section of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Department of Justice publishes this page. This site addresses hacking, intellectual crime and cyber ethics.
