Gigabit Ethernet Policy
Objective: Defines circumstances when gigabit connections are appropriate.
Affected Parties: MU IT Professionals, MU Researchers.
Policy: The Division of Information Technology currently offers gigabit network connections for $20 per month. Keep in mind:
- DoIT reserves the right to analyze a department's request for gigabit service.
- In most connection instances, a gigabit connection is not needed.
- Gigabit connections generally do not provide any added benefits.
- Due to large amounts of bandwidth, gigabit connections pose larger security risks to the network if compromised.
