File Storage Services
The Division of Information Technology offers departments and individual faculty and staff many options for file sharing and storage on Windows and Unix platforms. Central information technology resources offer high-quality services that leverage a secure shared environment. Division of IT file services:
- Eliminate the need for departmentally owned server infrastructure.
- Lower the total cost of ownership.
- Provide resources that some departments may not be able to individually afford.
- Decrease the redundancy of equipment on campus and more efficiently use resources.
- Increase time and resources departmental IT professionals can devote to user support issues.
- Decrease the number of points of failure.
- Implement industry best practices.
The Division of IT also provides around-the-clock monitoring 365 days a year, a physically secure environment, timely hardware upgrades, backup/restoration services and backup power.

Storage Options for Departments
Basic File Services
Basic File Services (BFS) provides a highly available, highly scalable data storage solution for Windows and Samba clients. BFS supports file shares and directories at the lowest rate possible while maintaining security, adequate performance, availability and data protection.
Fees: $0.10/GB/month; 1GB increments. Billing is based on assigned quota, not actual usage.
Application File Services
Application File Services provides a higher performance data storage solution for both Windows and Unix clients. Application File Services supports file shares for either end-user or application access and provides high availability, security and data protection.
Fees: $0.35/GB/month; 1 GB increments. Billing is based on assigned quota, not actual usage.
Bulk Storage Service
The Bulk Storage Service provides block-level storage in large quantities mainly for archival data. To use this service, a department must provide a front-end server (either virtual or physical) to connect directly to the storage pool.
Fees: $0.07/GB/month; 1 GB increments.
Database Storage Service
The Database Storage Service provides block-level storage for database workloads and shared storage based server clustering. To use this service, a department must provide one or more front-end servers (either virtual or physical) to connect directly to the storage pool. Please note that this storage service is not replicated offsite.
Fees: $0.45/GB/month; 1 GB increments.
