Application Services

The Applications Services Group supports the University's teaching, research, service, and economic development missions by developing and maintaining custom academic and administrative database applications.

Applications Services develops web and standard client applications using the following tools and platforms:

  • C#.Net
  • MS SQL Server databases
  • Internet Information Server (IIS) or Apache web server

First, we'll schedule a meeting to get an idea of what you need. We may already have an existing application, and with a few tweaks we can make it work for you. Or, we might know of an inexpensive commercial solution.

If we both agree that we need to write a custom application, we'll schedule a working meeting with you, our project manager, developers and user interface designer. From that meeting we'll create a rough diagram of our proposed solution. Once this is accepted by you, we'll write a memorandum of understanding (MOU). An MOU governs the cost of development and maintenance (see below).

We use the Project Management Institute's Project Management Body of Knowledge to plan, execute and maintain your application. This rigorous standard insures a quality, professional product.

Fees

Development charges are $66/hour. The MOU lists the estimated number of hours and the total cost.

We charge back ongoing maintenance charges annually under the terms of a maintenance agreement MOU for a specified number of hours or on a time-and-materials basis. Maintenance includes repair of critical and noncritical defects, security patching, data management, report development, user interface improvements and so forth.
