Division of IT: About The Division
FY08 Annual Report
On behalf of the staff of the Division of IT, I am pleased to publish our Fiscal Year 2008 (FY08) Annual Report. The Annual Report lists achievements corresponding to the IT Strategic Plan's goals and objectives. It also looks ahead to what we want to accomplish in FY09 and beyond.
Among our major achievements in FY08 were:
- Developing information security policies and procedures to protect our applications and data assets.
- Completing the move of enterprise financial, human resources, and student applications and data to PeopleSoft, and beginning the decommission of our mainframe.
- Beginning the process of selectively converting our telephone system to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) to reduce infrastructure costs.
- Moving to a unified messaging platform, which expands the capability of traditional voice mail.
- Upgrading data network backbone to ten gigabits per second (Gbps).
- Improving our desktop network standard to one Gbps per faculty/staff user — a tenfold jump in capacity.
- Providing new ID cards to all MU students, faculty, and staff.
- Implementing an emergency notification system.
In addition to strategic planning results, the Annual Report provides a high-level view of our finances, several background vignettes, and interesting facts about the Division of IT.
Thank you for taking time to read the report. I hope you find the information both valuable and interesting. As always, I certainly welcome your comments, guidance, and advice.
